880: Conwy | Riptide

The brewery: "Solar generation system on the roof of brewery which reduces electricity consumption by approximately 30%......Spent Grain is re-used as cattle feed.....Waste Beer, Yeast & Hops & Wort is re-used in Anaerobic Digestion to generate Energy........We use very little water in making our beer with 3 Litres of Water used to produce 1 Litre of beer, this is well below the industry standard of 5:1......Our beers are Cask & Bottle Conditioned. This means very little cooling is required (cooling uses LOTS of energy)......No expensive chemicals & no Filtration (Filtration can produce as much as 20% waste beer, Not Good!) By doing this we get better tasting beer as well as helping the environment." The beer: From the 'net: "This black ipa combines the best qualities of dark malt flavours and the refreshing fruity hop flavours of American ipas with grapefruit and tropical fruit aromas." Interesting combination of flavours this - not unpleasan...

879: Timothy Taylor's | Celebration Ale

The brewery: "Timothy Taylor established the brewery in the centre of Keighley in 1858, moving to the Knowle Spring, our present site, in 1863. The principle of never accepting second best was laid down from day one and remains with us still." The beer: "Celebration Ale was originally brewed under the name Royal Ale , to commemorate the visit to the brewery of HRH The Prince of Wales in 2001. Then in 2008 it reappeared as Celebration Ale, mainly in cask format, to celebrate our 150th anniversary.....It has now been lovingly rebrewed to its original recipe, to celebrate the coronation of the King on Saturday 6 May 2023. Celebration Ale is a strong English amber ale with a rich bronze colour and weighs in at 5.0% ABV. It’s robust with a fruity, candied peel aroma and has subtle hints of dried fruits, orange, and apricot on the tongue." Lovely beer this, but then I wouldn't expect anything less from TT's. Lovely full bodied flavour. Fabulous pub too. Red Fo...

878: Weetwood | Coronation Ale

The brewery: "Weetwood Ales began brewing in 1992 when finding a great pint of cask ale was a challenge. The brewery was founded by Adrian Slater, a skilled brewer, and Roger Langford, a farmer with space in a barn and a love for proper beer. Roger’s farm is in Weetwood Common, near Tarporley in Cheshire and the brewery took the name” The beer: "To celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III we have brewed a one off beer with the finest English malts and two majestic native hops, Harlequin and Jester." Yum. A nice full bodied ale, very tasty. Red Fox , Wirral, May 2023 Related entries

877: Tatton | Dark Celebration

The brewery: "Tatton Brewery is a family-run brewery in Knutsford in the heart of Cheshire, just a stone’s throw from Tatton Park. We brew both classic and contemporary style beers in a modern brewery, and our beers are  available in cask, keg and bottle in pubs, bars, restaurants and other venues across the North West. We have a custom built modern brewery, and have combined this with a traditional local yeast (revived after 50 years retirement), the finest ingredients and years of experience creating internationally renowned beers, to brew what we believe to be Cheshire’s finest beers." The beer: Nothing on their website. Bear with... Oh my word, what a beer. Absolutely superb. If there hadn't been other beers to try I would certainly have had another. It did indeed taste of chocolate, cocnut and vanilla. Yum. Red Fox , Wirral, May 2023

876: Magic Dragon | Dolphin

The brewery: "Our Brewery is based in North Wales and located in the Plassey, it is the oldest micro brewery in Wales surrounded by glorious countryside. Richard moved into the brewery in 2017 and started making real ale from our 12-barrel brew plant. We focus on brewing a core range with some seasonal specials. Our ethos is to only brew beer we want to drink as we are a small brewery and we want every brew to count." The beer: "Dolphin IPA is a refreshing Indian Pale Ale made with New Zealand Hops and inspired by the Dolphins off the Welsh coast. It’s just jumping with rich citrus zesty flavours both in and out the glass!" Not my favourite style of beer as you know but I was thirsty and chilled it was well recieved by my fussy tasty buds. 875: Cwrw Llyn | Glyndwr Aur

The brewery: "The beer must have been good that day because by the time we went our separate ways our daydream was a real ambition. After some encouraging market research, the die was cast. Twelve of us invested into the business and the Cwrw Llŷn Brewery produced its first batch of beer in 2011." The beer: "Glyndŵr is the great Welsh hero – his dream of freedom laid the foundations of a modern Wales. Raise a glass to him with this legendary golden ale! Raise a glass to him with this legendary golden ale! Very tasty, would make a nice session beer, particularly on a hot summers' night - remember them? April 2023

874: Myrddins | Dragons Pride

The brewery:  "Barmouth's first and only brewery & distillery. Myrddins Brewery & Distillery Ltd was established in 2014." The beer: "A true golden IPA, with a fluffy white head. Light and refreshing ale, slightly hoppy with a bitter finish." Not my favourite style of beer but tasty enough - not too hoppy. Bottle conditioned so pour carefully. April 2023. Related entries

873: Cwrw Llyn | Brenin Enlli

The brewery: "The beer must have been good that day because by the time we went our separate ways our daydream was a real ambition. After some encouraging market research, the die was cast. Twelve of us invested into the business and the Cwrw Llŷn Brewery produced its first batch of beer in 2011." The beer: A classic hoppy best bitter full of body, brewed using Goldings hops......The name derives from Ynys Enlli – Bardsey Island, at the western tip of Llyn [Brenin Enlli = Bardsey King]. A hundred years ago, there was a 200-strong community of fishermen and crofters on the island. It was customary on many islands, to elect their own ‘king’. The last king was Love Pritchard, who ruled the island from 1911 until 1925 when he led the remaining inhabitants to the mainland." A nice combination of flavours, though just a tad too hoppy for me - not enough to stop me having another though!   Thanks again to a friend for procuring these for me. April 2023. The brewery: “Y Bragdy Mws Piws / The Purple Moose Brewery is a '40-Barrel' micro-brewery based in the historic harbour town of Porthmadog, North Wales, close to the mountains of Snowdonia. Brewing commenced on 14th June 2005 with a one-off special pale ale at 3.5% called "No.1". The beer: "Calon Lân is an amber coloured best bitter brewed with water from the hills of Snowdonia. 4.0% ABV......Crystal malt & roasted barley, combined with aromatic U.S. hops, creates a smooth, full bodied, malty beer with a pleasant fruity hop finish." Enjoyed this, those pesky hops were kept largely in check. A nice combination of flavours. April 2023. Related entries.
